Eco Factor: Low-emission bike powered by a gasoline/electric hybrid engine.

Car and bike manufacturers make use of the best of auto shows to showcase their ingenuity in the form of futuristic motorcycles and cars which enthrall our senses. Similar is the case with Yamaha who showed their eye-stopping Gen-Ryu hybrid concept bike at the Tokyo Motor Show way back in 2005. After four years of planning the company is getting ready to take the concept to the production line and make it a part of the streets next year.

A series of patent applications have revealed the details of a 600cc hybrid bike that doesn’t use petrol to directly drive the rear wheel, but uses it to power an electricity generator that runs the rear wheel and also charges its on-board battery pack. Once the battery pack is juiced up, the petrol engine stops and the bike goes silent and green, with the gasoline engine kicking in when more power is needed or the juice in the batteries runs out.

The bike is expected to combine the inline four-cylinder engine from the firm’s YZF-R6 with a massive generator and an electric motor. The generator is hidden under the right hand cover, while the left cover is used to conceal the electric motor giving it a conventional Yamaha appeal.
