Eco Factor: Superbike powered by electricity.

Whenever we talk about electric bikes the image that strikes our mind first is a sluggish, silent bike that cannot even overtake the slowest cars ever made. The 2008 NEC Bike Show changed this opinion by unveiling the world’s first electric superbike that though silent, is not at all sluggish — The TTX01.

Built to demonstrate the potential of electric superbikes for a zero-emission Grand Prix, the bike is based on a Suzuki GSX750 frame that carries 43 bhp electric motors. Together the motors generate enough torque to propel this bike from standstill to 60mph in just 3.5 seconds. The top speed of the bike is claimed to be 110mph. The vision is to create a bike capable of a top speed of more than 150mph, carbon fiber body, and “hot swappable,” 20 KWh battery packs, regenerative braking. The bike, like all other superbikes, won’t come cheap as it is expected to be priced at £20,000 once the final version is made and tested.

The Dark Side:

In an effort to boost the acceleration, the bike suffers on its range. A full charge will take you no more than 50 miles. Moreover, the claimed acceleration and top speed are nowhere near to superbike standards.
