Eco Factor: Energy saving prototype home generates renewable energy and harvests rainwater.
Daniel Libeskind has announced that his much anticipated prototype home of the future will be unveiled on September 29. The prototype home incorporates the highest standards in design, craftsmanship and sustainability, which account for an overall reduction in the amount of energy it consumes.
Developed in cooperation with GMBH, the home features a zinc façade, which gives it a unique look. Apart from the zinc façade, the villa is largely constructed from wood, which offers a high level of insulation and an efficient operation.
The villa makes use of on-site renewable energy generators for heat, power and hot water. The standard configuration includes a solar thermal system, which is invisibly integrated into the glossy façade. A geothermal heat pump is used for heat and electric power may be generated from photovoltaic thin-film integration. Rainwater can also be harvested from the roof for use in a garden.
