Eco Factor: Moving house powered with solar and wind energy.
The Walking House is a unique dwelling system that enables the residents to remain on the move all day and night. Since the house is designed to keep moving, it cannot be connected to any grid for power needs. But that does not mean that you cannot charge your phone or your iPod in there, because this amazingly weird house makes use of solar and wind energy for all its power needs.
The designers also claim that a small greenhouse can also be added to the living module, to provide food for the inhabitants. A composting toilet system makes this house even greener. The basic module of this house is designed to house a family of four, but these houses can be coupled together to accommodate large “Nomadic” families.
Six legs attached to the frame of this house enable it to move at a maximum speed of 60 meters per hour. Out of the six legs, three always remain in contact with the ground to keep things nice and easy for the inhabitants inside. The designers also envision moving villages with all the people residing in similar moving houses.
The Dark Side:
Apart from its weird appearance and no steering mechanism defined, the house also poses some serious issues, like land ownership. Anyone who owns a piece of land won’t tolerate some nomad to infiltrate his premises in a moving house. For now, we don’t see any interested buyers, but if space agencies are unable to find any possible extraterrestrial location for us in time, then who knows!
