Eco Factor: Concept cellphone powered by thermoelectric and piezoelectric devices.
In an era where smart phones are dominating the cellphone market, industrial designers are working on concepts that have a simple feature set, but make use of futuristic technology to get powered by renewable sources of energy. The Zeri Phone by industrial designer Paul Frigout is one such cellphone that gets powered by a thermoelectric and piezoelectric system.
The concept cellphone is equipped with a thermoelectric generator, which produces electricity from the temperature difference produced when the cellphone is being carried in a pocket. To implement this technology, the cellphone features metal wires that are knitted onto fabric.
Secondly, for those users who don’t usually carry cellphones in their pocket, the Zeri Phone features a piezoelectric system that is comprised of hair-like generators that produce electricity from the vibration produced by air. Apart from its green credentials, the phone has nothing much for smart phone lovers. The interface is kept minimal, with a single display to show the person who is being called or who is calling the owner.
