Eco Factor: Rechargeable batteries with four times more power.

Most portable electronic devices available on the market today come with built-in rechargeable batteries, but there are still some gadgets that need AA or AAA batteries to work. Once discarded, the chemicals present in these batteries find their way into the scarce water reserves and hence pose a serious environmental hazard. Rechargeable batteries are greener, as they work more and aren’t discarded after every discharge.

Sony has been working on green batteries for a while now, and they’ve just unveiled their latest batteries that have four times more power, which means less recharging and more life. Unlike traditional lithium batteries, these batteries use olivine-type lithium iron phosphate as a cathode material, which keeps them powered up for a longer duration.

The company claims that these batteries charge in 30 minutes and have a life-span of 2,000 charge-discharge cycles.
