EcoFactor: Two new desktops from Samsung Korea that consume only 60W of power in power-saving mode and just 1W when in stand-by mode.

Desktops and notebooks which consume very low power, when both in operation and in stand-by mode, are becoming popular both among the consumers and gadget makers. It seems that companies like Sony, ASUS, Dell and Lenovo are all trying to attract customers with new green features. Samsung has joined that bandwagon, as their two new desktops are all about power-saving and ergonomics. The MV100 Tower and MZ100 Slim Tower are the two new models that Samsung is going to soon launch in Korea, and they seem quite similar in terms of power-saving features.

Both run on Intel’s G43 Chipset along with a choice between a GeForce 9500GS with 512MB of VRAM or a GeForce 9600GT with 512MB of VRAM. Both desktops apparently have an eco-saving feature that results in 60-watt energy consumption during the power-saving mode and a mere 1 watt when in stand-by mode.

The Dark Side:

The effort by Samsung seems more like a marketing gimmick than an actual attempt to go green. Both the desktops are not really unique in their power-saving ability and they just do not have anything that grabs your attention. In fact, apart from the girls at the unveiling function, nothing really stands out!
