Eco Factor: Rainwater harvesting system made from recycled materials.
One thing that you’ll find in almost all developing nations is clogged drains and gutters laden with plastic bags. These plastic bags end up polluting freshwater sources, hence leaving the population hunting for new sources of fresh water. Industrial designer Kelly Kunkel has designed an innovative solution to both the aforementioned problems, which he calls the Rainwater Catch and Storage System.
This product is designed by fusing plastic bags together using the heat of an iron, which makes a durable tarp-like material. Apart from collecting rainwater the project facilitates a way for people to take action and participate in cleaning up plastic bags around their community while being able to use the material as a sanitary and accessible method for building a rainwater storage system. The designer has developed a prototype that holds up to 35 gallons.
