Eco Factor: Zero-emission car powered by electricity.
Mitsubishi Motors did its bit for the environment on the World Environment Day, by unveiling the production version of the i-MiEV new-generation electric vehicle, describing it as “the pioneer that will open the door to the next 100 years of our automobile society.” The i-MiEV will go on sale on the Japanese market in late July of this year.
The i-MiEV (Mitsubishi Innovative Electric Vehicle) seats four, has a range of about 100 miles and emits no carbon dioxide. The 100 mile range is decent considering the needs of an average user who wants a car for his daily commute to the office. Priced at around $47,500, the car is a bit expensive for now, but the company states that when mass produced its cost will come down to around $25,000.
Powered by a 47KW electric motor that provides over 180Nm of torque, the car will be made available in July with mass production in 2011. The batteries of the i-MiEV can easily be recharged overnight on a domestic power source, which can be reduced by using quick chargers that are being developed by various power companies.
