Eco Factor: Ecofriendly washing machines to save energy and power.

Panasonic Corp. has announced the development of a new range of water and energy saving washing machines that will be released in China and some other Asian countries in a few months. The washers are based on a high-end “eco-wash” system developed by the company for upright washing machines.

The Eco-wash system employs a water circulation system leveraging the rotation of a washing tub and a technology to control the stirring stream, which enhances the performance of the machine without using much water. Apart from saving water, the machines are equipped with an inverter control and a motor with a deceleration mechanism that reduces power consumption. The washers are expected to debut in summers, bearing an estimated price tag of about $732.

The Dark Side:

The integration of water and energy saving technologies in the washer has its effect on the price tag, which is much higher than other widely-used products on the markets today.
