Eco Factor: Solar-powered wearable heater for Himalayan nomads.

With winter just around the corner, most homeowners have already started purchasing heaters that will keep their homes nice and warm. However, life isn’t the same in places such as the Himalayas, where fighting the bitter cold gets tougher as most people don’t have access to the grid and the means to purchase expensive heating systems.

One Earth Designs has taken on the Himalayan energy issue and come up with the HeatSource Textiles, which is a portable way to stay warm using nothing other than the energy of the sun. The system is comprised of phase-change capsules. After being placed in the sun during the daytime, the fabric can be worn on the body core at night to stay warm. The company is working with Himalayan tailors that will use local resources like bamboo to make the product available to the residents.
