Eco Factor: Solar-powered water purification system.
Since the water cycle is overloaded by human intervention, water found in every spot of the world can be contaminated with pathogens and other substances. While there is no dearth of water purification systems on the market, most of them are energy-intensive.
Industrial designer Diego Andres Martinez has come up with a concept water purification system that relies on clean solar energy to provide potable water. Dubbed the H2O Cycle, the water purifier is designed to remove contaminants from water, by using two processes in a single package.
The first process, called Sodis, is a sun-powered process, which makes use of UV-A rays to remove pathogens. In the second process, water is boiled to produce steam. During vaporization, all solid contaminants are removed and vapor is condensed to produce potable water. Finally, the active carbon filter is able to eliminate all odors found in contaminated water.
