Eco Factor: Solar-powered lantern to retail for just $10.
Designers at D.Light Design have proved that going green with the use of solar-powered devices and gadgets won’t hurt your pocket as much as you think by designing a solar-powered lantern that will retail for just $10. Touted as the world’s most affordable solar lantern, the Kiran is designed for people living in developing countries who don’t have access to electricity.
The product is the result of hundreds of hours of research the company has performed in rural India. The Kiran provides up to 8 hours of bright light on a single day’s charge using its highly-efficient LEDs that produce about five times more light than a kerosene lantern. In addition to green solar power, the lantern can also be charged in four hours using AC power.
