Eco Factor: Modified bicycle generates electricity.

Recently University of Oregon announced that the exercise machines in their campus have been modified to generate electricity, which could eventually illuminate some lights at the campus and the fitness center. The modifying procedure needed a few technical skills, which neither of us can mimic at home. However, if you too want to convert your sweat into watts we have a neat idea for you that will not cost you more than $10 if you possess an old bicycle in your garage.

The Pedal Gen is a DIY power generator that can easily be built by someone with a discarded bicycle. The designers believe that an average human can generate a constant 100W of power in 20-minute sessions, which if stored in a battery can be used to power three 11W CFLs in just one hour. Check out more details on the modification here.
