Eco Factor: Real-time CO2 counter encourages people to curtail emissions.
Deutsche Bank, a name not directly related to environmental conservation, has lit a seven-story LED sign that counts the amount of greenhouse gases present in the atmosphere in real time. The bank authorities claim that this is the first sign in the world that informs the masses about the amount of global warming causing gases present in the atmosphere.
The giant counter has been developed by scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and hangs outside Madison Square Garden. According to the sign, the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere is 3.64 trillion tons and is increasing at the rate of 800 tons a second.
Lit by 41,000 low-energy LEDs, the counter does more than simply being a guide to the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere, it also silently educates people around the globe on the need to conserve energy, which is by far the most carbon intensive resource on the planet.
