EcoFactor: Energy efficient LED displays It’s very refreshing to see the increasing eco-consciousness among consumers and marketers. The recent scoop about Dell planning to fix LED screens fixed on maximum computers from this year onwards proves that apart from increasing sales, they are also interested in taking an energy-saving leap as well. Two-thirds of Dell’s Latitude E-series laptops will ship with mercury-free LED backlighting as standard by December 15th of this year. By the end of 2009, 80 percent of all its laptops will be equipped with LED-backlit displays, which also have the added benefit of looking better being thinner, and consuming far less energy than the currently used CCFL displays. The remaining laptops from Dell will make the switch sometime in 2010. The Dark Side: I don’t see any downside to this launch. However, I wish more and more companies would consider this move by Dell as their yardstick and make progress by being eco-friendly. Via: CleanTechnica
