Eco Factor: Chandelier made from recycled packaging material.

Blocks of Styrofoam used to pack computers do wonderfully well in protecting your machine from scratches, but once delivered, all the packaging material ends up polluting the environment and its scarce resources. Green-minded DIYer Eric Lawrence decided to find a place where the packaging he got along with his new Apple MacBook didn’t harm the environment and he ended up hanging it on his room’s ceiling.

Eric created a stunning chandelier complete with 16 CFLs each rated at 5W. This unique lighting fixture has won him the Sustainable prize in the Design Within Reach Austin’s M+D+F competition. Eric states that since the chandelier uses low-power CFLs, the chandelier doesn’t generate any heat. Though the design looks fantastic, we do expect some of our readers to design an even better one replacing CFLs with LED bulbs and tip it to us.
