Eco-conscious couple generates cash from aluminum cans for wedding

couple recycles 400000 aluminum cans for wedding

Eco Factor: Couple collects 400,000 aluminum cans to fund wedding.

After getting engaged, Pete Geyer and Andrea Parrish wanted to show some love to the planet as well, by funding their wedding ceremony solely through the recycling of aluminum cans. The couple generated about $4000 to pay for dresses, DJs, food and flowers by recycling about 400,000 aluminum cans.

The couple spent 197 days collecting about 280,000 cans and getting about 120,000 cans in donations by Alcoa and United Recycling Services. They reached their target just in time for the July 31 wedding day, but the couple wants to continue their efforts by collecting more cans to fund their honeymoon, but this time they’ll be donating 60 percent of the proceeds to Doctors Without Borders and the Rim County Land Institute.
