Eco Factor: Zero-emission race car powered by electricity.
A student team at the University of Hertfordshire has raced the world’s first all-electric Formula Student can and has won this month’s Institution of Mechanical Engineers Formula Student competition. Developed to a budget of £14,000, the car does 55mph and can run at an average cost of a penny a mile.
The car which won the Low Carbon and Fuel Cell Technology Award for Lowest Carbon Production Car, is completely ecofriendly with no emissions coming out of its tail pipe. The team states that though some carbon is emitted during the production of electricity, but the issue can be solved if the energy required to charge the car’s batteries is harnessed from renewable sources.
