Eco Cars: Lightning Hybrids debut 100MPG hydraulic hybrid concept

Eco Factor: Concept vehicle runs on bio-diesel.

Lightning Hybrids unveiled their four-door sports LH4 sedan at this week’s Denver Auto Show. If everything went according to the plan, we might see Lightning Hybrid’s LH4 100 MPG hydraulic beast on the streets sometime in 2011. What the makers are waiting for now is the Automotive X Prize when it will compete in 2010.

Powered by a 9HP Diesel/Bio Diesel engine along with 150 HP Hydraulic motor/pump, the car can achieve 0-60 mph in just 6 seconds and has a maximum speed of 110mph. If you plan to buy one, then make your mind to spend anything between $39,000-$59,000.

The Dark Side:

Replacing electric motors to install hydraulic pump/motor doesn’t sound that bad, but still the speed limitations, similar to other hybrid vehicles, makes it difficult for us to call it sporty.
