Eco Factor: Zero-emission SUV powered by an electric engine.
SUVs are mostly associated with their off-road capabilities, which come at the cost of a massive amount of carbon emissions. Renowned tire manufacture, Kumho, thinks that apart from making hi-tech tires, the company’s designers can do well in designing SUVs that don’t pollute. The company’s in-house designer Rob Dolton has designed an electric SUV, dubbed Fortis, which promotes the use of green engines in power-intensive SUVs.
The off-roader comes with various drive configurations, and the driver can easily shift between AWD, 2WD, RWD and FWD configurations. Powered by rechargeable Li-ion batteries, the vehicle promises a zero-emission ride as well. As expected from a tire manufacturer designing cars, Fortis’s tires come with additional features.
The tread pattern on the tires can be adjusted according to the user’s requirements, which is made possible by use of special metal biters that remain hidden under rubber if the car is being driven on a highway, but as soon as the car is taken for an off-road trip, the tubes deflate, which bring the biters out to improve traction.
Apart from the use of electricity as a power source, the car betters its eco-credentials by the use of recycled rubber to make various body parts that include bumper sections, doors, bonnet, front wings and a rear hatch.
