Eco Factor: Car powered entirely by rooftop solar panels.

Car lovers at the 29th Zhejiang International Bicycles and Electric-powered cars Exhibition must have fallen in love with some of the latest ways that can make us green and clean while on the open highway. But the fan following of a car developed by the Zhejiang’s 001 Group would have been the most, since this car is one of the cheapest and the most favorable alternatives of going green. The car, which is entirely powered by solar energy costs a mere $5,560.

Solar electricity is generated by solar panels that enjoy the sunshine on the car’s rooftop. The company claims that the panels can absorb 95% of the energy falling on it and can convert 14-17 percent of it into useful electricity on which the car finally runs. An hour of solar charge is enough to run this car for 5 km, long drive lovers would have to wait a wee bit more as driving this car for 150 km needs an advance 30 hours of charging. Considering the good you would be doing to the environment, this is a little price to pay.

The Dark Side:

The company has just produced 10 of these cars for now, so if you are really interested in one, you might have to wait for a couple of years, or even more. Moreover, the solar panels utilized in the car don’t seem quite efficient, the car could do wonders if the developers could just decrease the charging time a little, without sacrificing on its range.
