Eco Factor: Trashed car gets fitted with a zero emission electric engine.

Volunteers working at the Good News Garage in Burlington have transformed a 1994 Saturn, a car which nobody would really want to take a ride in, into an electric vehicle which now moves around town without polluting the ecosystem. The car, which was purchased for just $300, now sports batteries instead of the conventional fuel-guzzling engine and radiator.

The transformation process did cost about $10,000, after which the car gets a decent 65mph for a 35-mile range. The batteries can be recharged in six hours, which makes the vehicle great for a routine commute to the office. The developers claim that the car can be recharged from a conventional wall socket or the fancier three-phase charging stations, which definitely will reduce the charge time.
