Eco Factor: Zero-emission hybrid buses.

The Mercedes-Benz Citaro G Blue Tec Hybrid articulated bus announced in 2007 is a 18-meter-long hybrid bus that can be seen in European cities. This zero-emission hybrid bus uses a 19.4 kWh lithium-ion battery pack placed on the rooftop, which is the largest in any vehicle worldwide. The battery is recharged either by regenerating braking or by the 160KW generator. Using four 80kW electric wheel hub motor on the center and rear axles gives a total output of 320KW.

The German company claims that the hybrid reduces the fuel consumption by 20% to 30%. This hybrid bus is awarded the DERKA environment award at the World Mobility Forum in Stuttgart, Germany for its contribution to protect the environment.
