Eco Factor: Zero-emission bus powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
As a part of a large-scale fleet trail taking place in Hamburg, Germany, the first of 10 new Mercedes-Benz Citaro FuelCELL-Hybrid buses has been delivered with a promise of zero-emissions and great performance.
By 2010, 10 of the 30 vehicles that Daimler Buses is producing for European operators are destined for the Hamburg transport authority. The FuelCELL-Hybrid bus is powered by a second-generation fuel cell drive system hybridized with lithium-ion batteries.
The combination of hydrogen and electricity consumes almost 50% less hydrogen and offers an operating range of 250KM, while reducing maintenance costs. To refuel the bus, four public hydrogen-filling stations are also being built in Hamburg, making long-distance operations feasible.
