Eco Factor: Hybrid yacht designed to be powered by a gas/electric engine.
While the world is looking for possible ways to power all cars, bikes and gadgets with green sources of power, industrial designer Atanas Yanev believes in a more practical approach. He thinks that it isn’t practical to envision a future where all vehicles will be powered by electricity, mostly because it too has a negative side.
Atanas has come up with a concept yacht, which he thinks is a practical way to go green. Dubbed Razor, the hybrid yacht is a 9 meter day cruiser, powered by two electro-motors with a steering system. For the power-plant there are two options – The first one is a fuel cell system that generates electricity that charges the batteries or powers the electro motors.
The second is the use of two small constant power gas turbines running relatively on any kind of ecofriendly liquid or gas fuel. There will be two types of tanks – one for liquid fuels such as ethanol and the second for gas fuels such as CNG or LPG.
Constant power gas turbines are very effective to run electro generators which will charge batteries (Li Po type) or will directly power the driving electro-motors when extreme power and speed is needed. Since gas turbines produce a lot of noise, they will only be kicked in when either more power is needed or the batteries need a recharge.
The Razor is a mono-hull aluminum body yacht with shallow running surface. The stern has foldable foot bridge to ease entering the board with diving equipment. There are two cockpit seats with two additional foldable seats. The passenger compartment is for two people.
