Eco Factor: Laboratories for University of Sheffield designed to have minimal impact on the environment.

Bond Bryan Architects has designed modern and sustainable laboratories for the University of Sheffield. The laboratories will serve as a new research facility to house researches of The Sheffield Institute for Translational Neuroscience (SITraN), a team dedicated in researching for a cure for motor neuron disease.

The architecture firm believes that the facility will be different than any other facility in the world. Covering an area of 2800-square meters, the £12 million building will be made from natural and sustainable materials like stone and timber to reduce its impact on the environment. The double-story building will be topped up with a green roof and large overhangs that will add to its green aesthetics.

The Dark Side:

The amount spent on the building will be much more than what a conventional research facility costs all over the globe. Moreover, the building will still remain connected to the grid for energy, which is not acceptable for a next-gen building that costs £12 million.
