Eco Factor: Solar and wind powered habitat made from recycled materials.
If anti-pollution measures don’t get the importance they should, then our planet is sure to enter a world where the difference between fish and humans will be minimized. Scientists are of the opinion that global warming has already started, and in the not too distant future, we may witness many species becoming extinct, a decline in natural resources and above all, a rise in the ocean level, which will drown what we call the metropolis of today.
A team of artists based in New York have designed a temporary habitat that will be able to support life when calamity strikes. The team is scheduled to launch a prototype dwelling called the Waterpod in 2009. The floating habitat will generate its own energy using a hybrid solar and wind generator and will be built from a combination of recycled wood, metal, plastic, fabric and other materials, most of which will come from junkyards. Initially the Waterpod will serve as a single house, which can then be expanded into ever-growing water communities.
The Dark Side:
The Waterpod does show the effects global warming might bring with it, but this arrangement just generates water, electricity and food for living. Human needs are far more extensive than this. A better option is to curtail the effects of global warming by making use of sustainable products, reducing pollution, reducing waste and preventing the disaster from striking at its worst.
