Eco Factor: Sun and rain harnessing architecture.

People all over the world know that self-sufficiency and sustainability are the modern keywords for green living. However, there are not many people who work their own way out to ecofriendlyliness. To help the world go green, architecture firms and designers have laid out their canvasses to portray glimpses of the future world. Luca Donner, an Italian designer, is just one of the many people working on sustainable architecture. Donner’s out-of-the-box thinking has given rise to an idea, which he calls the Sun House.

This design acquires a weird shape, not to attract uncommon people, but to gain the most of the energy bestowed from the heavens above. The concept lies on the variation of sunlight during the day and in different seasons. Each of the apartments has been designed to collect solar energy with its own wall-mounted photovoltaic system. Apart from being a solar energy generating building, the Sun House also harvests rainwater, which is collected in a tank placed at the base of the tower.

The tower takes shape as prefabricated modules are stacked together. This not only saves the surroundings from the mess created by building materials, but also makes sure that towers don’t take decades to be built. The designer plans to stack the prefabricated modules on top of each other using a crane or a chopper.

The Dark Side:

The designer shows the way solar energy can be maximized, but in doing so, the design the building acquires doesn’t seem like an earthquake-safe architecture.
