Eco Factor: Renewable energy-powered facility has a living façade.
Ryuichi Ashizawa Architects are proposing a sustainable facility for Asakusa, a renowned tourist area in Tokyo, which will feature a living façade and will generate renewable energy for all its power needs. Dubbed the Asakusa Tree, the facility will be used as a center for tourist and culture in the area.
The facility is designed without any walls to not hide the interiors, but showing it through louvered windows. The core of the building is to be constructed from steel reinforced concrete and the façade is to be made from structural steel.
Each of the floors will be supported by spiraled pillars like a vine. The building will be equipped with systems to generate renewable energy from natural sources such as wind, sun and rain. The facility will pump underground water through a part of the core and use it in every space on the tree-like façade.
