Eco Architecture: CO2 Scraper will capture pollutants and emissions from air

Eco Factor: A large-scale skyscraper will absorb and convert carbon emissions and other pollutants into oxygen.

Some decades ago we might have not thought of unusual technologies and solutions that are now necessary to prevent humanity from confronting the fatal consequences of global warming. California-based engineering and design firm, Nectar, is trying to provide something like that. “The CO2 Scraper” is designed to catch pollutants and emissions from the air, converting them into life-giving oxygen. For this, the structure will accommodate between two to four hundred large-size trees. To feed these trees, a windmill-powered pump will supply water and the necessary nutrients.

Not only it will absorb carbon dioxide, but it will also offer a considerable amount of shade along with cooling the air during summer. No need to mention that cooling is an obvious advantage that can be harnessed due to the temperature-lowering properties of hundreds of trees. If ever successful, this concept could be utilized well by erecting some of them near factories and industrial plants.

The Dark Side: Although the structure is energy self-sustaining via windmills, the need for a big amount of electricity for maintaining other services like elevators will require an external energy system.
