Eco Factor: Sustainable complex to feature energy-saving systems and roof gardens.
Nord Architects and 3XN have won a competition to design a sustainable masterplan in Denmark that will be a cultural hub for visual arts, literature and scenography. The cultural center takes inspiration from natural elements and uses them to reduce the energy demand and the related emissions.
The masterplan for the Northern Goods Railway in Aarhus, Denmark, is a layout of a number of triangulating construction sites that will have open and transparent ground floors, terraced houses and roof gardens. The roof gardens will not only reduce heat gain, but also prevent storm water run-off.
The project will involve the renovation of existing freight halls along with a new building with rooms and large scale auditoria. The green roof will also appear as an extension of the nearby green space and give an illusion of a green carpet above the new building. Additionally, the project will also make use of natural ventilation and lighting systems that will reduce the overall demand of energy.
