Dell tries to bell the energy cat!

Earlier we had reports that the PS3 launched itself in an eco-friendly fashion. So it is no surprise that a company like Dell is also doing its best to go easy on the power consumption, in every possible manner. It is pleasing to see that every company now has definitive standards that it has to comply to, if it indeed wishes to call itself eco-friendly. There is nothing ambiguous about it.

Dell has launched Inspiration 531 Desktop this Wednesday & it is a system that offers not only great features & good style, but also comes with its own package of eco-friendliness. It is the company’s first Energy Star 4.0-compliant consumer desktop PC & is priced at $369. According to the company, they have already been involved in producing Energy Star 4.0-compliant desktops & notebooks. Hence the 531 marks a new direction in reaching out to the more common customer in an environmentally conscious fashion.

According to the Energy Star 4.0 requirements, any PC has to function at around 50 Watts of power & must have an efficiency of around 80%. The other eco-friendly features of the system include pre-configured switch to a low-power sleep state after 15 minutes of inactivity and also include a forest-friendly paperless owner’s manual. A low-powered LCD screen is an option & the company has also started “Plant a tree for me” program.

The basic configuration of the system can be looked up to. All in all, Dell intends to deliver an effective, attractive eco-friendly package that would appeal to all. I like the efficiency of the system as it saves plenty of power & reduces noise factor & also the heat produced. Just hope consumers warm up to this first initiative of Dell which would encourage the firm to move further forward in this green direction.
