Eco Factor: New emission-free electric truck offers a range of around 75miles.
Implementing its global “Shaping the Future of Transportation” initiative for zero-emission mobility, Daimler Trucks presents the new Fuso Canter E-CELL concept truck with battery-electric drive. Daimler Trucks’ Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus Corporation will unveil the new eclectic vehicle at the IAA Commercial Vehicles event in Hanover from September 21-30. The silent and emission-free truck offers a range of around 75miles, making it suitable for urban centers and other environmentally sensitive areas.
The 3.5-ton Canter E-CELL concept with batteries positioned in the chassis will also come as a hybrid with a conventional diesel engine. The Canter Eco Hybrid with diesel-electric drive delivers fuel savings between 10 and 15 per cent, depending on the region in which it is being used. It has fuel efficiency of 27mpg and currently has the lowest fuel consumption of any truck in Japan. The company claims that already as many as 1,000 of these green Canters are running on the roads of Japan, Australia, Hong Kong and Ireland, as well as in a large scale testing programme in London.
