
Italians can have an ice cream for breakfast, lunch, dinner or anytime in-between irrespective of the weather. Gelato crazy Italians whip out over 600 flavors of ice-cream and spend over 5 billion euros a year over their favorite dessert.
Italian prisoners will help its country fight global warming by making eco-friendly ice cream from locally sourced milk and fruits. A group of inmates from the prison in Opera, near Milan will make the gelatos in their in-house production and serve the Italians by February next year.
We will make an experimental, artisan product, using fresh local raw materials which are not genetically modified.

The effort is a part of the “zero kilometer” program that is aimed at urging the Italians to produce and buy food locally in order to reduce the food miles and cut carbon emissions associated with transportation.
