Colorado based jeweler decides for a fully solar powered studio as her workshop

Solar powered shed

It’s true that jewelers and fire go hand in hand; but it’s always not safe to practice this ancient craft within the confines of your dwelling. Colorado based jeweler, Gail Seigel certainly knows that, and most importantly she had gone out of her way to do something about it. In fact, she had opted for a fully solar powered studio shed with low carbon features, which has been highly recommended for providing a perfectly sustainable solution.

Installed by solar power based company SolSource from Denver, this 14′ x 10′ x 9′ covered space was totally prefabricated. On the interior the studio features optimized electrical and plumbing, corrugated metal, FSC-certified TruWood siding (from leading Collins company, famous for their safe wood products), a foam-insulated cement floor and even energy-efficient windows. According to the authorities of SolSource, all of these come at only $7200.

When it comes to the pitched roofing system, SolSource has made it highly equipped in order to impart it a sustainability in the long run. They have managed to install eight solar panels, each with a capacity of 235 watts in its pitched roofing. The grand total of 1.88 kW will not only have the ability to power the studio, but also the nearby dwelling of the artist and at the same time. As far as the sustainable credentials are concerned, it’s always good to know that green renewable energy is not just limited to large scale projects and concepts; it is slowly evolving to encompass a wide range of projects and in this way, surely making its way into the more practical, accessible yet communal scheme of things.
