Installing solar energy in high schools has twofold advantages. Not only is it economical for institutions that often depend on public funding but at the same time, the students are able to recognize the need for and the possible benefits of renewable source of energy. Needless to say, this goes a long way in generating awareness about the environmental problems among them. Three high schools in Chile have recognized this fact and have adopted various mechanisms that can harness solar energy and provide enough power to keep the environment clean and green. These schools have adopted techniques that will provide energy for all its uses right from lighting to heating. This approach will not only stop the electricity bills from reaching the school but will also spread the word about how solar power can be utilized. People associated with the project claim that students often came to them and asked how much energy are they saving, but since at that time they were dependent on electricity and other conventional sources, they had no answer. This move by high schools will surely spread the ‘Green’ word among students who will be the ones to benefit the most out of the Sun.
