During the Frankfurt Motor Show, Hyundai revealed its latest i-Blue Fuel Cell concept. This will be crafted in the third generation fuel cell technology of Hyundai. Eco-Technology Research Institute is currently developing this concept in Korea.
Earlier, its predecessors were developed at SUV platforms, whereas i-Blue comprises of D segment 2+2 crossover utility vehicle. 100 KW electric motor and fuel cell stack is powering this vehicle. If the vehicle is fueled with compressed hydrogen of 115 l tank then it can effectively run for approx 600 km.
Another key highlight of vehicle is its appropriate weight distribution which makes it ideal for optimal driving and handling dynamics. This is possible due to housing the fuel cell stack under floor. HMC is taking active participation in various fuel cell verification programs both domestically as well as internationally. It is also trying its best to attain the position of mass production for these fuel cell vehicles within the year 2012 and 2015.
Since 2000, Hyundai has also been active member of California Fuel Cell Partnership in United States. CaFCP is a huge organization which has been created with the combination of 31 members from various industries, such as energy providers, government agencies, auto manufacturers and fuel cell technology companies. Year 2004 also marked the partnership of Hyundai with Chevron Corp and UTC power to start 31-vehicle fleet testing program.
