We have come across numerous electric vehicle conceptions that include state-of-the-art automobile concepts or advanced sports-bike prototypes, but now, for a change, engineering students David Pearce, Rogelio Rosas and Dan Southard from California State University Long Beach have created their very own electric motorcross bike. Christened as the Electric Motocross Bicycle (EMXB), this fascinating conception won the campus’s 2011 Innovation Challenge, which in turn allowed the students to win a prize money of $10,000 as seed funding to develop a new business!

Basically touted as a high performance mountain bike, the design actually manages to fuse the advantageous elements of both a mountain bike and a dirt bike. The motorcycle has a light weighted frame alluding to its agile demeanor, but on the other hand it does pack a punch with its power generation. The zero emission riding element in itself combines the easy controls of a bicycle with the dynamic attributes and enhanced suspension of a motorcycle. And to top all of these off, the bike also incorporates a comfortable seat, while its fuel efficiency comes at a ‘dirt cheap’ price.

One of the designers, David Pearce remarked:

We are ecstatic about winning the CSULB Innovation Challenge. It certainly makes all of the hard work worthwhile. We want to build a successful business around our product, and the Innovation Challenge is the perfect opportunity to make this vision a reality.
