Eco Factor: Sustainable skyscraper with vertical farms is powered by wind energy.
Australian architecture student Josephine Turner is rethinking skyscrapers by proposing a sustainable skyscraper that features stacked triangle shapes rather than rectangles. Christened the “Bangaroo Sky Village,” the structure is proposed for the Bangaroo district of Sydney in Australia.
The triangle structures are rotated to help soften the sharp geometrical look of the buildings. The triangles also help in even weight distribution and allow for a more creative layout of the building. The designer has used “spider joints” to allow the triangular shaped modules to be stacked into towers of varying heights.
The different levels of the towers are connected with sky-bridges that offer an open community environment. Agricultural levels have been scattered throughout the buildings and are interspersed between the residential and the commercial levels. The complex is powered by the energy captured in its own wind sails, and the impact of sunlight is mitigated by the use of different facades on the face of the buildings.
