Now it may not be Alerion Supermileage’s 2500 MPG concept or even Purdue Solar Racing Team’s Celeritas, but it is as close as you will get to ‘taste’ the commercial aspect of high fuel efficiency of futuristic automobiles. Mind you, we have mentioned that you will get close; as this vehicle is conceived at a more practical level, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will be the next big thing at your local car dealer’s workshop. Christened as the Seven, this remarkable electric car was the runners-up at the 2010 Progressive Automotive X-Prize competition.

Designed by the self-funded, volunteer-led company Illuminati (Angels and Demons anyone?), you can be rest assured there is no conspiracy regarding the car’s performance. Fully electric, the car can achieve a top speed of 130 mph, has a 200 mile range, can do a 0-60 in around 8 seconds, and most importantly is touted to come with a 207.5 MPG mileage. Moreover, the enhanced aerodynamic features were kept intact without sacrificing the car’s four seater capability, or even conventional amenities like a stereo and air conditioning.

The vehicle may have taken over 12,000 hours to build at a cost of over $100,000, but we are not too sure about the ‘retro bulbous’ look. On the brighter side, may be it will be improved upon with progress of time, as will be the commercial potential for this vehicle. The overall high efficiency can perhaps allure car manufacturers and lawmakers alike; because at the end of the day, many are expected to be ready to pay handsomely for a zero-emission spurt with a blatantly efficacious fuel economy.
