Advanced solar canopy takes its inspiration from Tetractys system

We have seen numerous green design concepts influenced by external conditions, situational factors and even structural components. But the eponymous Tetraktis solar canopy system is truly and rather uniquely inspired (as the name suggests) by the Greek mystical as well as mathematical triangular figure Τετρακτύς (Tetractys). Consisting of ten points arranged in four rows, this fascinating conception by Sebastian Sanchez Napal, is by the designer’s own words – “to represent the force of math, numbers, nature and spatial measures by the relation of triangles which can grow infinitely.”

To be located on Buenos Aires’s Florida Pedestrian Street (“Peatonal de Florida” in Spanish), each Tetraktys will be composed from an iron frame to form a solid skeleton. Within this defined form, a myriad of smaller triangular solar-panels (transparent and colored) will be fixed for optimum collection of solar energy. These transparent and colored glasses will also impart diversity of ambiance to the space beneath the canopy.

As with the brilliant inspiration, this canopy will also function like a true Tetractys system. This means that the triangular structure can literally be extended to allow smaller triangular elements to be included in the ubiquitous framework. This, in turn, will accentuate upon the degree of clean power generated for the lengthy road, which is touted to be at least 10 blocks long. So, even if the system is incorporated at specific junctions of the eminent pedestrian avenue, it will generate enough clean electricity for street lighting facilities.
