This is a fascinating little concept with the way Human –Power is being utilized to power various gadgets these days. The fact remains that pedal-power is a lot more effective today than it was at any time in the past because we have found new and innovative ways that enhance the conversion efficiency of human power in to mechanical or electric energy. The concept of using human-power and a set of well built pulleys to do work is nothing new in the world of mechanics or even our life. But with technology finding new short-cuts, we have more ways that minimize wastage and enhance usage of human energy.
Aqualine is a human-powered vehicle concept that focuses on transforming human power into motion power that could be used to power other devices such as pumps and filtration devices. The concept reminds me of my early childhood in my small village where apart from using a pulley to draw water out of a well, we used to have a very hard working bull (the poor thing) go round and round in circles so that we could extract oil from a seed-crushing machine. While Aqualine is a far more advanced machine it obviously uses more or less the same principle!
Aqualine helps convert our pedal power to pump out water or even help things run in the process of water filtration. I’m sure the core design will help run many more engines which need little electric power. The upside of all this is that you can use it in places without power (Many places across the globe) and it gives you hell of a long work out! Here is an idea- strap it to the Tour De France competitors in their off-season practice sessions and men like Carlos Sastre and Cadel Evans will produce loads of energy!!
