How about converting trucks and vans to run on battery power? Don’t you think it is a rather cool idea? Well that’s exactly what ALTe Powertrain Technologies has planned to do. With vehicle-seller Manheim, the company will transform its trucks and vans to run on battery. As you know, trucks and vans are important for logistics and supply chain. Without these vehicles, all transportation of goods and commodities will be affected. So, considering that these vehicles are as indispensable as trade and commerce itself, transforming such vehicles to be battery-run is a path-breaking invention.

Manheim is a huge vehicle wholesaler with presence in 18 countries. ALTe will give Manheim Conversion Kits. The conversion kits can make the vehicles run on battery power up till 30 miles. The Conversion Kits cost $25,000. It is like a plug-in powertrain, that gets the vehicle to run on electric power. The plug-in powertrain consists of a 20kWh lithium-ion batter pack. It also comes with a four-cylinder engine! There are electric drive motors, and generators amongst others.

ALTe says that the new technology is a green-fuel technology. The replacement of a combustion engine in trucks and vans with an electricity processing engine augurs well for the development of hybrid technology. ALTe feels that there will be lesser dependence on fossil fuel as their engine is better than the traditional V8 engine in many ways. It offers better torque and enhanced towing capabilities. And it is economical as well.

ALTe is an expanding company. To assist its production expansion it has applied for a loan with the Energy Department. Right now it wants to explore more financial sources to produce such hybrid powertrains at its 185,000-square-foot production plant in Auburn.
