Eco Factor: Sustainable house grows its own green roof.

The recent disastrous floods in Pakistan have encouraged eco-conscious architect Andrew Maynard to design a sustainable instant housing solution that can help local residents. Christened the Airdrop House, the concept can be airdropped in affected areas to provide instant housing. The tiny Airdrop House has a diameter of just one meter and is made up of a dried sponge-like material.

When the house comes in contact with water, the sponge-like material soaks up water and expands to provide enough space for living. When fully expanded, the house measures roughly 7 meters in diameter, and removes much of the adjacent ground surface water. Moreover, the sponge has seeds embedded in it, which helps the house make its own green roof to shade the house and also provide water.
