‘Ahimsa Silk’: Ecofriendly Sericulture

sbc

Kusuma Rajaiah has recently won the patent for producing silk without killing silk worms. The patent came under the name of ‘Ahimsa Silk’. Though the noble idea has been patented so far but it should be actually used on a mass scale, despite having economic implications.

A very eco-friendly innovation is now a property of an individual and other silk producers may be sued if they produce silk on his pattern. Rajaiah let all the moths to escape from their cocoons and it takes generally five to seven days then he uses the shells to produce yarn.

NDTV reported Rajaiah saying,

My inspiration is Mahatma. He gave a message to the Indian silk industry that if silk can be produced without killing silkworms, it would be better.
