Electricity is an indispensable requisite for all facets of life and has been acknowledged as a fundamental human need. The stipulation of power is enormous and is growing steadily. Meeting this demand has nowadays become the greatest challenge for man. In the recent years the consumption of electricity is increasing at a fast rate due to population growth and economic development. To augment the electricity supply new power plants and power lines are built up so that this demand could be met.
For this peak usage of electricity Engineering Prof Donald Sadoway used a school chalk board at a reputed TED congregation to address the audience and write the formula for a liquid battery. That would one day incise the need for latest power plants and power lines. Additionally Prof Sadoway told the audience in California that with the help of these batteries the power supply would be in steady equilibrium with the demand. He also said that these batteries would provide electricity during overcast days.
Prof Sadoway with his squad of students at Massachusetts Institute of Technology started Liquid Metal Battery Corporation and assured that they would come out with their models in not more than 2 years. Bill Gates, is also among the company’s promoters. The company has plans to bring up a liquid battery which would be competent of storing sufficient electricity to serve the day to day needs of approximately 200 typical U.S homes. These reasonably priced liquid batteries could store electricity from solar panels, wind farms or already accessible production amenities and save it for the time when it is most required. These batteries could be placed at the basements of buildings so that electricity could be consumed by them in the wee hours of the day. Without mincing words we can say that there will be no need to build power plants or power lines for the peak time usage. Prof Sadoway put in plain words that vanadium and magnesium are the key metals used in making these batteries.
The goal of meeting the electricity demands will definitely be met by these miracle batteries or liquid metal batteries and one day they could supply clean power to the world.
