Adobe for Women: Eco housing solution for women in abysmal conditions

Adobe for Women

Women living in San Juan Mixtepec, situated in Mexico’s Oaxaca State, can now finally heave a sigh of relief. For all their difficult situations are about to end, thanks to Adobe for Women Project. Blanc Borderless, an architecture firm, in collaboration with Caeiro Capurso has come up with this benevolent concept.

Women have always been considered the fair sex, which is true. Apart from this, they have been considered the weaker counterpart, which still is debatable but is grantedly taken for positive. Quoting this example won’t be wrong. 60% of men in Oaxaca migrate to US for higher purposes, 84% of whom never seem to climb the high ladder down. The result, their wives with their children are left abandoned. The Project draws its roots from a twenty year old Project which was undertaken by Juan Jose Santibañez, a Mexican Architect. He had assisted as many as 20 women in building sustainable houses in Oaxaca. Similarly, Adobe for Women, a not-for-profit organization, seeks to build 20 such houses for women living in abysmal conditions.

The cost of building a house is EUR3830 ($5504) and the organization plans to cope up with these costs through donations. The best thing about this project is that each house will be constructed with natural materials like adobe and bamboo. And, adobe is an economical material which is used mostly in areas that are hot in summers and dry & cold in winters. Presenting a rectangular dimension, the houses would display an array of energy saving arrangements like those for solar energy and water collection, a composting toilet, kitchen scraps composting, and energy efficient stoves.

Energy consumption is well, the strongest point next to the fact that these houses are supposed to give these weaker families the silver lining in the dark clouds. Every small detail and every possible nuance has been taken care of while planning such perfect shelters. The success of this project would mean relief to many-a-families and respite to many lives. Such projects could really be time alterers. We wish the Almighty blesses it with blissful success.
