Here’s a fine testament to the fact that eco-friendly design need not necessarily look a recycled cardboard milk carton. The Maison EvolutiV created by Olgga Architects as concept home for the Salon Europeen du Bois, is just the perfect show design that can convince even the most reluctant traditionalist into turning over a new green leaf. The energy-efficient home is currently developed using only two modules with the ground module being done in a chestnut stake skin in varying sizes. Cleverly enough, the second module is made to stand just over the first one and acts like a green roof that can also harvest rainwater!

With a wool insulation system reinforced with cellulose, it also incorporates a low-energy passive design that increasingly makes use of solar panels fitted in to maximize the usage of green-technology. Of course, the concept is just floated as a show home for the time being but we do see a lot of potential in this thing, at least in the vacation home sector if not in the actual residential building sector. This particular example of the Maison EvolutiV took around 100,000 euros to build but if you’re a hard-core treehugger, I’m sure you could find ways to knock that price tag by a good few notches with your ‘reuse, refuse, recycle’ motto.
