Thousands of years ago land was covered with lush green, dense forest cover which gave the planet all the oxygen it needed. Soon man took over & his greed assumed control. He tried to clear every available piece of land to establish his own settlements. Now that greed & ever growing desire has led us to a situation where his very existence is threatened. With growing concerns of global warming, a much needed change has come about in this attitude. People world over are trying do their bid to reduce the content of greenhouse gases.
In a major step towards this direction, Carbon Ninja has announced its first Arboretum. An arboretum is a vast piece of land designated to forest & ecological growth. A natural eco system is allowed to flourish & sustain without human infringement in this vast land. Carbon Ninja, in their efforts to decrease the CO2 content have negotiated use of 1.2 million square feet of land in Michigan.
The Arboretum is adjacent to vast woods. Initially some hardwood trees will be planted & managed in the arboretum & would be taken care of. Soon the area with natural expansion would be allowed to merge with the adjacent woods. There will also be subsequent introduction of Oak, Maple & cherry trees which would allow large fauna to take shelter. The idea of arboretum is a welcome one as it helps not only reduces effects of global warming but also allows natural eco-systems to flourish. The land currently taken for this purpose was cleared for agriculture some 70 years ago. Just goes to show that we are not doing a great favor to the planet, we are just restoring what actually belongs to it.
